HEWI was founded in 1929 in Bad Arolsen i Germany and has had its major breakthrough in the 1970 where HEWI made the classic, legendary lever handle 111. A range including cloakrooms, handrails and balustrades and sanitary products was created with the principle: each part matches the other. During the following years, HEWI acquired cult status. With clear shapes, colors and quality, the brand gained worldwide recognition.

In 1979, HEWI developed its first fittings products for older and disabled people. In collaboration with users, architects and those affected, HEWI developed further functional and design-oriented products – and became the topic and brand leader in the accessibility sector.

With the networking of the three business segments: hardware, sanitary and electronic locking systems HEWI satisfies the growing demand of the market and provides comprehensive system solutions from a single source. Whether entrance area, sanitary room or staircase, the products are coordinated with each other, both in style and in function.

Today the family business operates worldwide with around 600 employees. The HEWI production site and administration - now grown to 43 000 m² - is located in Germany.
